Ukhimath, Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand

Ukhimath is a pilgrimage site in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, India. It is at an elevation of 1311 metres and at a distance of 41 km from Rudraprayag. During the winters, the idols from Kedarnath temple, and Madhyamaheshwar are brought to Ukhimath and worshipped there for six months. Ukhimath can be used as center destination for visiting Madhmaheshwar (Second kedar), Tungnath ji (Third kedar) and Deoria Tal(natural fresh water lake) and many other picturesque places. Ukhimath has many other ancient temples dedicated to several Gods and Goddesses such as Usha, Shiva, Aniruddha, Parvati and Mandhata. Situated on the road connecting Guptkashi with Gopeshwar, the holy town is mainly inhabited by the head priests of Kedarnath known as Rawals.

Situated in the Himalayas, Ukhimath offers panoramic views of Kedarnath and Neelkanth peaks. Ukhimath is a pleasant and picturesque hill town, 41 km from Rudraprayag. Ukhimath is also a famous pilgrimage centre and known for its ancient temples dedicated to Usha, Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Aniruddha and Mandhata.

Wedding of Vanasur’s daughter Usha and grandson of Lord Krishna, Anirudh was solemnized here. In remembrance of the same, this place was named as Ushamath, now known as Ukhimath. King Mandhata penances Lord Shiva here. Winter puja of Lord Kedarnath and year round puja of Lord Omkareshwar is performed here. This temple is situated at Ukhimath which is at a distance of 41 km from Rudraprayag.

By Road

Ukhimath is situated on the road that connects Guptakshi to Gopeshwar. Buses are available easily from Delhi ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Rishikesh. Also, from Haridwar, Dehradun and Tehri, there are equally sufficient road transport facilities to reach the site.

By Rail
The nearest rail head is the Rishikesh Railway station.

By Air
The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun.
