Char Dham Yatra has a great significance among the Hindus. There is a belief among the Hindu community that a yatra to the Char Dham washes away all the sins of a person and takes him to ‘Moksha’. It is also believed that a Hindu must visit these pilgrimage sites once in his lifetime. Char Dham are the different abodes of God widely revered by the Hindus. The four dhams are situated on four different corners of the country.  Jagannath Puri and Dwaraka are on the coast at east and west of the country where as the Badrinath is deep seated in the hills up north and Rameshwaram on the southern coast.

Badrinath literally translates to lord of the plumforest as badri means plums in Sanskrit. The abode of lord Vishnu is referred to as Badrinath. This is one of the first temples that originated in the char dam yatra. Located at high altitudes the temple is covered with snow for 6 months of the year. The temple is surrounded by hot springs.

Rameswaram is the Kashi of south india. it is said that even lord rama worshipped the shivalinga here. The corridors of the Ramanthapuram temple are one of the biggest in the entire world. It stands as an epitome of architectural beauty apart from its spiritual significance.

Dwarka as the birthplace of lord Krishna has gained a lot of spiritual significance. It is said that the deity at Dwaraka is very benevolent and kind. Anyone who prays to Krishna is blessed and attains moksha. even the dust of Dwaraka is considered to be special

Puri is the only shrine in India, where goddess, Subhadra, sister of Lord Krishna is worshipped along with her brothers, Lord Jagannatha and Lord Balabhadra.  Within Jagannath Puri, there are 5 sacred places to visit markandya, chandan, paravti talab, shwetganga, inderghuman

Significance:

Dham are regarded to be the extremely sacred in Hindu religion and every single Hindu really should take a Char dham trip when in their lifetime people have believed that if we undertake a journey to all these holy destinations then all our sins would be washed away.

The important significance for these 4 temples is mainly attributed to the difficulty in the journey that one must take to go to these places. A journey which will reinstate faith and devotion in the person.

Order of Visit:

According to hindu mythology, the Char dham yatra has to be taken from west to east in the clockwise direction.
