Badrinath Dham is one of the oldest of Hindu places of worship. On the right bank of the river Alaknanda lies the sacred shrine perched at an altitude of 3133 m above sea level, guarded on either side by the two mountain peaks Nar & Narain with the towering Neelkanth peak providing a splendid back-drop. Built by Adi Shankaracharaya, the philosopher-saint of the 8th century, the temple has been renovated several times due to damage by avalanches and restored in the 19th century by the royal houses of Scindia & Holkar.
The name of the tirtha originates from the local word badri which is a type of a wild berry. It is said that when Lord Vishnu sat in penance in these mountains, His consort Goddess Laxmi took the form of a berry tree and shaded Him from the harsh sun. It is not only the dwelling place of the Lord Himself but also home to countless pilgrims, saints and sages, who meditate here in search of enlightenment.
Itinerary Details
Day 1 – Delhi – Haridwar
Once you arrive at the Delhi Airport, start your journey towards Haridwar by road. On the way, get your tests done for the onward yatra. Once you reach Haridwar, check into your pre-booked hotel. In the evening, visit Har Ki Pauri, a famous ghat on the river Ganga and attend the Ganga Aarti. Then, return to the hotel for the overnight stay.
Day 2 – Haridwar – Birahi/ Rudraprayag
Check out from the hotel in the early morning and start your drive towards your next destination, which is Birahi. On the way, you get to visit the Deoprayag, Rudraprayag, Karanprayag and Nandprayag. Once you reach Birahi, check into the hotel for the overnight stay.
Day 3 – Birahi – Joshimath – Badrinath
The third day starts with a drive to Badrinath via Joshimath. On the way there are various beautiful places to visit. Once you reach, check into the hotel for some rest. After refreshments, proceed to Badrinath temple for Darshan and offer prayers to the Lord. Before you proceed to the temple, reach Tapt Kund, a hot spring for a bath. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. After Darshan, return to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 4 – Badrinath – Joshimath – Rudraprayag
In the early morning, proceed to the temple and return to the hotel after darshan. After breakfast, enjoy the major attractions around Badrinath. In the afternoon, proceed to Rudraprayag via Karnaprayag. Once you reach the destination, check into the hotel for the overnight stay.
Day 5 – Rudraprayag – Rishikesh – Haridwar
The fifth day starts with your drive to Rishikesh by road. Rishikesh is popular as the Yoga capital of the world and for other exciting adventures. You can also experience Ayurvedic massage and attend other yoga classes. Later, in the evening, proceed to Haridwar by road. Check into the hotel at Haridwar for the overnight stay.
Day 6 – Haridwar – Delhi
Check out and start driving towards Delhi, for your onward journey.
